Jabalpur Engineering College or JEC Jabalpur previously known as Government Engineering College, Jabalpur, was established on July 1947. It is one of the oldest technical institutions in India and the oldest technical institution in Central India and the state of Madhya Pradesh. JEC offers B.E degree courses in eight disciplines and nine postgraduate courses in engineering fields, three postgraduate courses in applied Sciences and M.C.A.

The college celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1997. The first citizen of India, his Excellency Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma graced the occasion. The college was affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi Technical University Bhopal (M.P.) The college was declare autonomous in 1998-1999 by the Government of Madhya Pradesh.

In June 2010 it was declared deemed university. Jabalpur Engineering College was ranked 22 All India for April 2010.

The college is a research center of Rajiv Gandhi Technical University. Sufficient facilities are available for the teachers and students of Applied Sciences and various engineering disciplines for doing their research work and their PhD and D Sc. Degrees. About sixty teachers/students have been awarded Ph.D. degree from this college. To keep in consonance with the fast emerging technologies, JEC is taking a lot of initiatives by revitalizing its courses and taking many projects in thrust area of engineering and technologies.

All Department of this college is having well appreciable infrastructure along with separate play grounds for each and every department and hostel. This college is having well equipped labs in all the departments, well qualified and experienced professors which actively take initiatives in encouraging the students to guide & to nourish them technically with timely updating & upgrading the labs , experiments and syllabus of respective courses. This college is having 9 Boys Hostels and 2 Girls hostels.

Civil Engineering Department

Civil Department of JEC (GEC)is the "Royal Civil" came into existence from establishment day of the college, formerly known as Robertson Science College, which has good infrastructure along with the well equipped labs, timely updates in syllabus & labs carried on for technical nourishment by the experienced professors that enables researchers to perform. Professors are the reviewers of many journals

Electrical Engineering Department

Electrical Engineering Department is "Put Power into Practice", came into existence from establishment day of the college has very nice infrastructure to support all activities including impulse testing of transformers and transformer repairing unit, has labs so equipped that students from many institutes visits here in technical tour, since research work is always carried here with transformers. 1.6 million volts impulse testing transformer is present in Asia's tallest single storied building here in this department. Organizes national conferences and international conferences. Professors are the reviewers of many journals

Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering Department (E&TC)

E&TC Department is "Bridging The Gap", came into existence from establishment day of the college as "Telecommunication Engg." Deptt. has appreciable infrastructure to support all activities including games & sports. This department has well equipped labs and classrooms with advanced projects offered to Department by :Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (MPCST) Bhopal, has sponsored a 3 year project entitled ‘Sigma Enhancement Model for Communication using Higher Order Neural Networks”. First broadcasting test of Television done from this department and has Asia's oldset Television in TV Lab. Organizes national conferences, Professors are the reviewers of many journals and actively participates in updating & upgrading the experiment & syllabus.

Department of Applied Physics'' The department provides specialization in Electronics, Solid State, Quantum Mechanics, and other fields of applied physics.

The Head of Department is Dr. Jyoti Chaubey.

Department of Chemistry The department was established as an independent department in 1962. More than 150 research students have been awarded a Ph.D. The department possesses testing facilities like the galvanisation test, purity of zinc chloride, and testing of transformer oil as per ISI specifications.

JEC Jabalpur is developed as a small township centered around Gokulpur and Ranjhi. It has a lush green campus of 255 acres (1.03 km2), rich in natural flora and fauna, with a lake as background. The campus is well connected to the city, 6 km away from the railway station and 9 km from the bus stand. The on campus facilities includes a bank, State Bank of India, and post office.

Library

The college has a collection of books on science and technology including chemistry, mathematics, physics, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, computer science, electrical and electronics engineering, and industrial production engineering. The library also has books on humanities and social sciences.

Training and Placement Cell

The Training & Placement Cell which was established in 1970's. It invites companies that offer jobs to the students.

Scholarschips and prizes

The central and state government has sanctioned around 14 stipends and scholarships to ST/SC students. The students who are toppers in their branches in the seventh semester are awarded a gold medal. A gold medal is given to the girl who is the topper in her branch.

Cultural and technical activities

The college annually organizes a national level technical cum cultural fest named as "Aureole[1]" which means the light behind the darkness. "Audy" is being introduced as the mascot of this fest created by the college students.

The Aureole'10 was one of the biggest tech cum cult fest of Central India. It had more than 52 technical and cultural events including the biggest "Moshpit 1.o" Rock Band Competition with 15 bands from all over India. In 2010 "Euphoria" performed in the professors night.

A technical team in the college known as "Netrix" creates web based applications. Almost all the departments have online forums to discuss news and exchange information.
